In 2025, Rotterdam will celebrate the Rotterdam Year of Women. For ten months, the spotlight will be on the women of the city. 2025 marks half a century since the United Nations declared the International Year of Women. This is an inspiring opportunity to draw attention to the role and significance of women in Rotterdam, both historically and in the present day.
The organisers invite Rotterdammers from all sectors and neighbourhoods to raise the profile of women in Rotterdam and strengthen their connections. This includes areas such as culture, sports, education, business, science, politics and the social domain. The Rotterdam Year of Women is committed to creating a future in which all Rotterdammers can be equal. To achieve this, the organisers put the spotlight on women in Rotterdam, amplify their voices and build networks with them.
Our cultural program Women’s Voices Rotterdam is part of the year. In it we present powerful women: musicians, makers and social entrepreneurs with an impressive story, an distinct artistic vision and a strong social commitment. Central are inspiring Rotterdam female musicians and makers, who have the courage and perseverance to choose their own path and realize their mission. Their music, stories, dreams and ideals are given a stage in a varied program of concerts, workshops, lectures and meet-ups.
Every month, the Rotterdam Women’s Network organises a meet-up to celebrate women, amplify their voices and forge new connections. On Saturday 13 September, there will be a Women’s Heritage Meet Up at De Doelen in Rotterdam. Culture Connection will be present, offering a musical preview of the Women’s Voices Rotterdam series. Khorshid Dadbeh, a string virtuoso, will perform her own compositions, inspired by the rich musical heritage of her native Iran.
