Coming up: a unique concert with Ukrainian women’s songs on 16 April at the Pelgrimvaderskerk

Featuring Maryana Golovchenko + cellist Pau Sola + singers from Codarts & the Ukrainian House Rotterdam

This promises to be truly special: a concert of Ukrainian women’s singing led by Maryana Golovchenko. Accompanied by cellist Pau Sola, Maryana will perform ritual songs deeply rooted in Ukrainian tradition and connected to spring. Her warm, expressive voice will be joined by a choir of 36 women who have taken part in her singing workshops over the past few weeks. Their rich harmonies will create a powerful and moving musical experience.

“These spring songs carry within them the power of generations of women,” says Maryana. “They connect us with nature, with one another, and with our history. For centuries, women have come together to welcome spring through song — to dispel the long winter and make room for hope, new life, and new love.”

In the past weeks, Maryana has led inspiring workshops at Ukrainian House Rotterdam and Codarts Global Musics, bringing together women of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds. From these encounters, a choir emerged — including many women with Ukrainian roots — who will give depth and power to Maryana’s singing during the concert.

The evening is organized in collaboration with Ukrainian House Rotterdam and VATAHA.

Guests can also enjoy Ukrainian sweet treats and browse handcrafted jewellery and artisanal goods from Crafted Treasures & Pokusa Jewelry.
