On Sunday, 13 September, Hamraaz will present new work at the Utrecht Gaudeamus Festival. Hamraaz is the duo formed by French flautist and duduk player Lucie Lelaurain and Iranian tanbour- and tar player Khorshid Dadbeh. They share a passion for Iranian and Armenian modal music. Through their own compositions and collaborations with other composers, they give these centuries-old musical traditions a new voice.
Familiar faces from Culture Connection
You may recognise Khorshid Dadbeh from her beautiful musical contributions to Culture Connection’s projects Sacred Songs and Women’s Voices. Last year, Khorshid and Lucie performed together with the Ayal Ensemble during the electrifying closing concert of Women’s Voices in Rotterdam. Now they return as Hamraaz, with three new compositions receiving their world premieres at the Gaudeamus Festival.
Nieuwe Noten: three world premieres
The three new works were created as part of Nieuwe Noten, an annual open call for new compositions. The selected works premiere at Gaudeamus and will subsequently travel to other festivals, including November Music. The programme features new works by Arefeh Hekmatpanah, Igor Iofe and Yiorgos Bereris.
