Spanish singer and songwriter Ysa Bermejo is a musical storyteller par excellence. Born in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain, and having lived in Rotterdam for ten years, she has built an artistic career combining music, social commitment, and education.
Inspired by icons such as Toto La Momposina, Celia Cruz and Susana Baca, Ysa sings straight from the heart, with passion, energy and rhythm. Her music blends her Spanish roots with Latin American influences and Rotterdam’s contemporary urban sound. She has developed her own energetic, rhythmic and compelling style, effortlessly merging Latin, hip-hop and electronic music.
Her songs tell personal and social stories, addressing themes such as migration, self-discovery, motherhood and female empowerment. A socially conscious artist, she uses her voice to advocate for diversity, freedom and female autonomy.
Ysa graduated cum laude from the conservatoires in Maastricht and Rotterdam, and also obtained a degree in pedagogy from the University of La Rioja. She has performed at North Sea Jazz, Tallinn Music Week and Días Latinos, among others, and was selected for Popronde 2023.
In Women’s Voices Rotterdam, Ysa Bermejo sings about themes that touch her deeply, such as migration, self-discovery and motherhood. She also performs songs from her upcoming album, Gabriela, which is due to be released in November. According to Ysa, the music is full of feminine energy. Accompanied by her regular musical partner Michalis Michailidis on acoustic guitar, Ysa’s voice and stories become even more intimate — warm, honest and moving.
