Women’s Voices – Spotlight on pioneering female musicians

Double concert of Ysa Bermejo and Ayal Ensemble in Grounds Rotterdam

The Women’s Voices series shines the spotlight on pioneering female musicians. On Thursday 30 October, singer Ysa Bermejo and the Ayal Ensemble will celebrate the power of women through music that touches, moves and connects. If you would like to attend the concert, buy your ticket here!

Ysa Bermejo is a Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter of Spanish descent. Drawing inspiration from Latin American icons such as Toto La Momposina and Celia Cruz, she performs songs with a powerful social message. Her music is a fiery fusion of Spanish influences, Latin rhythms, and urban sounds. During this concert, Ysa will give an exclusive preview of her upcoming album, Gabriela. Accompanied by guitarist Michalis Michailidis, she will sing passionately about female strength, freedom and motherhood.

The Ayal Ensemble, founded by singer Emine Tokail, is a collective of female musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds. They perform songs by and for women – music that has often been overlooked. Their repertoire, performed in languages such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Kurdish, Greek and Macedonian, reflects the resilience, creativity and solidarity of women worldwide.

The Ayal Ensemble consists of: Emine Tokail (vocals), Khorshid Dadbeh (tar, tanbur), Lucie Rosanne Lelaurain (duduk), Flavia Escartin (cello), Hasret Zilan Yildiz (percussion) and Borbála Malyi (baglama, lavta).
